One of the best ways to find out what Missions is all about is to go on a short-term missions project. At VEFC we have seen many over the years go on short-term projects, from a week in Tijuana, Mexico to half a year somewhere overseas. First hand exposure to another culture, reaching out in Jesus Name, has been a life changing experience – for those who went and the people they went to! So we at VEFC very much encourage members to seriously consider going out on a Missions project.
Of course there is lot more to going than buying an airplane ticket, and the leadership at VEFC is here to help you in every way we can to see God’s purposes accomplished in your life. The following steps are what you will need to do to get started…
- Be a growing, active disciple of Jesus Christ right now in your everyday life.
- If God gives you an interest to be involved in a short-term project, first, talk to God about it. Then talk to a Pastor or a Missions Committee member. They will be able to pray with you for God’s guidance and direction, and also, tell you about opportunities and the next steps you will need to take.
- When you’re sure God is leading, and where He is leading, fill out the Visalia Evangelical Free Church (VEFC) Short Term Missions application and submit it to the Missions Pastor or Missions Committee Chairman. The Missions Committee will review the application, and if accepted, will recommend you to the Elder Board for approval to represent VEFC on a short – term missions project.
- At this point there is still much to do (i.e. raise financial support, get passports, visa, shots, etc.) but you are now on your way with the loving support of your church family behind you.
